7 april 2010 - Assessement of the French Aerospace, Defence Electronics and Security Industry 2009

In presenting the 2009 results of the French aerospace, defence electronics and security industry, Jean-Paul Herteman, Chairman of GIFAS, began by recalling that this sector is a centre of excellence within the national economy.
“We are the biggest exporter in France and raise the largest sales profit (€14 billion in 2009). Each year, we spend 15% of our turnover on R & D to keep at the forefront of progress and innovation. This heavy investment and our high performance requirements feed back into other sectors and influence the whole country, whether by job-creation or technological transfer. And, since 2006, we have taken on 38,000 workers and this recruitment drive continued uninterrupted in 2009 with some 7,000 new recruits.”

In 2009 the profession, though not untouched by the crisis, nevertheless recorded a limited fall in turnover estimated at €35.8 billion (-2.2% adjusted for inflation). In a difficult economic environment, the French aerospace industry maintained its market share with 80% of the consolidated turnover exported. The balance of sales, extremely positive, is estimated at €14 billion (as in 2008).
Orders registered in the year are again greater than the annual turnover at €37.3 billion. The steep rise in orders in the space sector, and also in defence and security electronics, has made up for the fall in civil aeronautics orders.
The order book still represents the equivalent of 4 years’ activity for the profession.

21 April 2009 - Launch of "Club France Aéro"

In Tianjin Binhai on 21 April, the French Embassy in China and Gifas launched "Club France Aéro", a forum to encourage networking between experts from the air transport and aerospace manufacturing sectors.
The generic Club France was created in 2008 on the initiative of the French Embassy with a view to forging personal and professional links between Chinese professionals who studied and graduated in France.
The aerospace subgroup "Club France Aéro" is aimed at the hundreds of Chinese students and interns who trained in France and who are now active in the air transport or aerospace sectors as well as students and professionals currently training in French institutions, in particular the Sino-European Institute of Aviation Engineering in Tianjin. All had the unique opportunity of meeting representatives of Gifas and its members at the launch ceremony.
"Club France Aéro" members will be able to take advantage, throughout the year, of the benefits and services offered by "Club France" as well as the expertise of Gifas professionals. To become a member, simply sign up on the community website
www.clubfrancechine.org. Membership is voluntary and free of charge.
